Deck overview

This is a group slug/punisher deck helmed by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The primary strategy is to deploy symmetrical damage effects and punisher enchantments that cause opponents to lose life when they play lands, cast spells, draw cards, or activate abilities. Each time an opponent loses life for the first time each turn, Valgavoth draws a card and grows larger, providing a steady stream of card advantage. The deck then leverages damage multipliers like Torbran, Thane of Red Fell and Solphim, Mayhem Dominus to amplify the pain, and finishes with massive X spells such as Torment of Hailfire and Exsanguinate, or the life-doubling Wound Reflection combined with Havoc Festival. The deck is resilient to creature-based strategies but vulnerable to enchantment hate and lifegain prevention.
