Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul creature-heavy stompy and anti-spell punisher strategy led by Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. By dedicating virtually the entire 99 to creatures and lands, the deck completely breaks parity on Ruric Thar's static ability, which deals 6 damage to anyone casting a noncreature spell. Early turns focus on establishing mana acceleration with dorks like Elvish Mystic, Ruby, Daring Tracker, and Somberwald Sage. The deck smoothly transitions into deploying oppressive hatebears such as Collector Ouphe and Magebane Lizard, before dropping Ruric Thar on Turn 5. Once the commander establishes a punishing tax on removal and combo spells, the deck deploys overwhelming trampling beaters including Quartzwood Crasher, Ghalta, Primal Hunger, and Apex Altisaur. Combat finishes are accelerated by overrun effects like Craterhoof Behemoth and End-Raze Forerunners. While vulnerable to mass creature board wipes, the deck exerts tremendous life pressure on spell-heavy tables.
