Deck overview

This deck is a Mono-Black Aristocrats and Stax-Attrition engine helmed by Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The deck focuses on controlling the board through continuous, asymmetric creature sacrifice while compounding card advantage and life drain. In the early turns, it deploys ramp, token generators like Ophiomancer, and sacrifice outlets like Woe Strider and Yahenni, Undying Partisan. It then establishes oppressive attrition pieces including Braids, Cabal Minion, Archfiend of Depravity, and Sheoldred, Whispering One to strip opposing resources. Once Avacyn, Angel of Horror resolves, any nontoken creature that dies returns at the beginning of the next end step, turning self-sacrificing edict creatures like Plaguecrafter and Accursed Marauder into recurring board wipes every single turn. Combined with drain staples such as Blood Artist, Bastion of Remembrance, Vein Ripper, and Gray Merchant of Asphodel, the deck swiftly drains the table while locking opponents out of creature combat.
