Deck overview

This mono-black control deck revolves around Tergrid, God of Fright, turning symmetric discard and sacrifice effects into overwhelming asymmetric advantage. By deploying continuous hand and board attrition spells like Oppression, Necrogen Mists, Plaguecrafter, and Dark Deal, the deck systematically strips opponents of their resources while Tergrid steals their permanents directly onto your battlefield. The mana base consists heavily of basic Snow-Covered Swamps alongside powerful big-mana lands like Cabal Coffers and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. While the deck possesses format-crushing stax locks and massive value bursts, its low density of cheap ramp means it operates on a fair curve, deploying Tergrid around Turn 5 and locking down the game on Turn 6. Without Tergrid, the deck relies on resilient backup win conditions like Sheoldred // The True Scriptures, Torment of Hailfire, and Rise of the Dark Realms to close out games against resource-depleted opponents.
