Deck overview

This is a Dimir theft-and-monarch deck helmed by Garland, Royal Kidnapper. The core loop is elegant: Garland's ETB makes an opponent the monarch, and then every time any opponent becomes the monarch, you steal a creature they control for as long as they hold the crown - while your stolen creatures get +2/+2 and can't be sacrificed. The 99 is packed with redundant theft (Mind Flayer, Hostage Taker, Shield Broker, Keiga, the Tide Star), goad effects to force opponents' boards to collide (Bloodthirsty Blade, the Impetus cycle, Sly Instigator), and a graveyard recursion package (Extract from Darkness, Aberrant Return, Bringer of the Last Gift) to keep the value engine turning. The deck wins through incremental combat damage from a growing army of stolen creatures, with Consuming Aberration and mass reanimation as alternate finishers.
