Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk typal midrange deck commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The strategy establishes early board presence with low-cost Merfolk, then casts Hakbal to generate an immediate wave of explore triggers. Exploring filters your draws, guarantees land drops, and steadily grows your creatures with +1/+1 counters. Counter multipliers like Branching Evolution and token generators such as Deeproot Pilgrimage and Deeproot Waters rapidly swell your army. Combat damage is pushed through using unblockable enablers including Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, and Zegana, Utopian Speaker. The deck protects its board with premier defensive cards like Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call, while one-sided board wipes like Wave Goodbye clear opposing blockers to ensure a decisive combat finish.
