Deck overview

Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver commands a Dimir Zombie typal deck that blends token swarm aggression with aristocrat drain engines and heavy graveyard recursion. The primary plan establishes early Zombie presence, casting Wilhelt on Turn 4 to convert dying creatures into decayed tokens and steady end-step card draw. In the midgame, the deck scales through stat-boosting lords like Death Baron and Undead Warchief, board suppression via Noxious Ghoul, and life drain from Plague Belcher, Vengeful Dead, and Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Asymmetric sorceries like Raise the Palisade and Living Death break board stalls or recover instantly from opposing removal. While the deck boasts exceptional grinding resilience and recursion, its lack of countermagic and instant-speed protection leaves it open to exile-based sweepers and fast noncreature strategies.
