Deck overview

This mono-black control deck uses Maha, Its Feathers Night as an asymmetric lock piece that sets all opposing creatures' base toughness to 1. By pairing Maha with static toughness reducers like Night of Souls' Betrayal and Kaervek, the Spiteful, or continuous damage engines like Pestilence, the deck destroys every opposing creature and prevents opponents from developing any creature presence. High redundancy in board-shrinking effects combined with tutors like Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor ensures fast, reliable assembly by Turn 5. Once the board is suppressed, the deck generates massive mana using Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to finish the game with Torment of Hailfire, Exsanguinate, or lethal flying commander damage. While vulnerable to noncreature spells and mass exile sweepers, its creature denial presents an overwhelming hurdle for combat and creature-centric strategies.
