Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends oppressive stax and resource denial with a compact, game-ending infinite combo. Built around Tergrid, God of Fright, the deck leverages fast mana to deploy early asymmetrical lock pieces like Contamination, Chains of Mephistopheles, Nether Void, and Trinisphere. These cards paralyze opposing mana development, punish card draw, and strip resources. Meanwhile, Tergrid converts symmetrical sacrifice and discard spells such as Pox, Smallpox, and Mindslicer into massive board advantage by stealing opponents' permanents. To close games swiftly, the deck runs the primary combo of Professor Onyx and Chain of Smog. By repeatedly targeting yourself with Chain of Smog, Onyx's Magecraft trigger drains all three opponents to zero life in a single turn. Premier black tutors, explosive card engines like Necropotence, Ad Nauseam, and The One Ring, and robust graveyard recursion ensure reliable assembly and strong resilience against disruption.
