Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov lifegain and drain combo-control deck commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. The primary game plan establishes low-cost mana ramp and incidental lifegain permanents like Soul Warden, Authority of the Consuls, and Kambal, Consul of Allocation during the first three turns. On Turn 5, casting Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel converts every lifegain instance into massive card draw at no mana cost by paying the life gained. This massive card velocity digs into the deck's redundant win conditions, establishing a critical must-answer threat on Turn 6 with pieces such as Exquisite Blood, Sanguine Bond, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, or Aetherflux Reservoir. The deck protects its board using efficient instant-speed interaction like Restoration Magic and Deadly Rollick, while taxing opponent combat and spellcasting with Blind Obedience and Suture Priest before closing the game on Turn 7.
