Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy monoblack tribal swarm strategy that capitalizes on twenty copies of Rat Colony. The commander, Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, acts as both a recurring card advantage engine and a massive combat multiplier. By milling cards on the end step and returning Rats to hand, Ashcoat ensures the deck never runs out of threats. The primary game plan curves out early Rats into Ashcoat, creating an explosive Turn 5 attack that can deal over 40 damage to a single player. Explosive artifacts like Thrumming Stone can cast every Rat Colony from the deck in one turn, while secondary legends like Marrow-Gnawer and Karumonix, the Rat King provide alternate lethal lines via evasion and poison counters. The deck plays dense mana acceleration and strong creature-based interaction, though it remains vulnerable to mass exile sweepers and noncreature combo strategies.
