Deck overview

This is an Abzan toughness-matters creature deck led by Doran, Besieged by Time. The commander reduces the cost of many high-toughness creatures, while effects such as Assault Formation, Doran, the Siege Tower, and Felothar the Steadfast provide redundancy for assigning combat damage with toughness. The deck develops through mana creatures, creature tutors, card-draw permanents, and large defensive bodies. Its strongest ordinary position is a turn-six or later board with the commander and several creatures, followed by a large attack around turn eight. The list has useful sweepers and defensive tools, but it does not have a compact win condition, reliable haste, strong trample access, or enough protection to force combat damage through three opponents. Creature tutors improve consistency for the main theme but cannot find several important enchantments. The result is a functional battlecruiser-to-mid-power combat deck rather than a competitive combo or control deck.
