Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Izzet Spellslinger deck commanded by Gandalf the Grey. The strategy focuses on casting instant and sorcery spells to trigger Gandalf's flexible modal ability, dealing direct damage to opponents, untapping mana sources, and copying powerful draw or burn spells. Blink effects such as Essence Flux and Ghostly Flicker serve double duty by protecting Gandalf from targeted removal and resetting his four modes so he never has to be tucked into the library. Redundant damage amplifiers like Fiery Inscription, Erebor Flamesmith, and Thunderdrum Soloist stack widespread burn across the board with every spell cast. Mana rituals like Jeska's Will and mass recursion from Wisdom of Ages enable explosive storm turns that can deal 40+ damage across the entire pod around Turn 7.
