Deck overview

This deck is a high-pressure Rakdos Group Slug and punisher strategy led by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The game plan revolves around deploying inexpensive, symmetrical life-loss permanents such as Roiling Vortex, Razorkin Needlehead, and Zo-Zu the Punisher. When opponents lose life during their own turns, Valgavoth grows into a massive flying threat while drawing up to three extra cards per turn cycle. This massive card velocity lets the deck consistently find damage doublers like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus and Bloodletter of Aclazotz, as well as oppressive enchantments like Manabarbs and Havoc Festival. The deck completely shuts off opposing lifegain, forcing rivals into a rapid downward life spiral where every spell cast and land tapped brings them closer to death. Highly efficient interaction such as Deflecting Swat and Deadly Rollick protects the commander while keeping opposing win conditions in check, ultimately closing games via compounded burn and lethal aerial commander damage.
