Deck overview

This Simic Merfolk deck is commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul, focusing on typal synergy, +1/+1 counter scaling, and unblockable combat pressure. The deck curves out low-cost Merfolk on Turns 1 through 3 before casting Hakbal on Turn 4. Hakbal immediately triggers explore across the entire team at combat, growing creatures with +1/+1 counters, filtering the top of the library, and accelerating lands onto the battlefield. By Turn 5, the wide board presents a must-answer threat, converting massive power into unblockable damage using Herald of Secret Streams, Lord of Atlantis, Master of the Pearl Trident, and asymmetric sweepers like Raise the Palisade. It finishes all opponents over 2 response cycles on Turn 7, supported by an infinite extra turns combo with Wanderwine Prophets and Deeproot Pilgrimage. Robust countermagic, ward taxes, and phase-out protection safeguard the board throughout execution.
