Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is the engine of a Simic Merfolk deck that turns incidental explore into lands, counters, and cards. The primary plan is to deploy a wide Merfolk board, use Hakbal's combat exploration to ramp and pump, then finish with unblockable combat damage through Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, or Merfolk Sovereign. Secondary paths are Simic Ascendancy's counter win and a Wanderwine Prophets extra-turn loop that needs Deeproot Waters or Deeproot Pilgrimage to supply sacrifice fodder. There is no hidden commander; Emperor Mihail and Realmwalker are role-players rather than alternate commanders. The deck wants Hakbal alive from turn three onward, using cheap Merfolk and protection to keep the explore train running.
