Deck overview

This deck is a classic Mardu cheat-aggro strategy centered entirely on Kaalia of the Vast. The game plan accelerates into Kaalia on Turn 4, using her combat trigger on Turn 5 to bypass the exorbitant mana costs of game-ending Angels, Demons, and Dragons. A single unblocked attack with Master of Cruelties eliminates an opponent outright, while cards like Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Avacyn, Angel of Hope, and Aurelia, the Warleader rapidly build an insurmountable aerial clock. To ensure Kaalia connects, the deck packs an exceptional suite of low-cost and free protection spells, alongside silence effects that prevent opponents from interacting on critical turns. However, the deck eschews traditional mana rocks, making it heavily dependent on Kaalia remaining on the battlefield to cheat costs. If Kaalia is answered repeatedly, hardcasting the high-CMC top end causes noticeable tempo loss.
