Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Mardu aristocrats build centered on the back face of its commander, Awaken the Blood Avatar. The game plan revolves around playing cheap, sticky creatures on early turns—such as Doomed Traveler, Hunted Witness, and Grim Initiate—to drastically reduce the casting cost of Awaken the Blood Avatar. Resolving the spell sacrifices expendable bodies, forces each opponent to sacrifice a creature, and creates an aggressive 3/6 Avatar token that burns each opponent for 3 life whenever it attacks. Coupled with token doublers like Anointed Procession and Mondrak, Glory Dominus, the deck rapidly floods the board with lethal threats. Dedicated aristocrats pieces like Bastion of Remembrance, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Purphoros, God of the Forge ensure that every sacrificed creature directly drains opposing life totals. While the deck lacks countermagic to defend its spells, its dense recursion and deep card draw via Skullclamp and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician provide robust recovery.
