Deck overview

This mono-black control deck weaponizes Horobi, Death's Wail to turn otherwise innocuous targeting artifacts, utility lands, and low-cost abilities into lethal, instant-speed creature removal. Cards like Squee's Toy, Baton of Morale, Distorting Lens, and Cauldron of Souls become zero-to-low-cost repeatable kill spells that systematically clear opposing boards. Once Horobi establishes board supremacy, asymmetric payoffs like Gisa, Glorious Resurrector, Grave Betrayal, and Valgavoth, Terror Eater steal destroyed opposing creatures, while Syr Konrad, the Grim and Massacre Wurm rapidly drain life totals. The deck bypasses protective keywords using Arcane Lighthouse, Detection Tower, and Nowhere to Run. Because Horobi's destruction trigger is symmetrical, Horobi is vulnerable to opposing targeting effects, requiring careful timing, non-targeted protection like Glaring Spotlight, and reanimation to sustain its oppressive creature lock through to a Turn 8 combat and drain victory.
