Deck overview

Szarel, Genesis Shepherd leads a synergistic Jund Aristocrats combo deck centered on abusing persist creatures and sacrifice engines. Szarel lets you play lands from your graveyard and places +1/+1 counters equal to its power on another creature whenever you sacrifice a nontoken permanent during your turn. This counter placement entirely cancels out the -1/-1 counter added by the persist mechanic on cards like Putrid Goblin, Murderous Redcap, and Woodfall Primus. When paired with free sacrifice outlets like Goblin Bombardment, Ashnod's Altar, or Phyrexian Altar, the deck generates infinite sacrifice loops that yield infinite damage or total noncreature permanent destruction as early as Turn 4. Green mana ramp accelerates Szarel ahead of curve, while black tutors and reanimation ensure reliable assembly and engine recovery. Redundant engines like Bhaal, Lord of Murder and The Gitrog Monster provide backup win paths and steady resource advantage.
