Deck overview

This Mardu deck transforms Extus, Oriq Overlord into a relentless recursion engine by exploiting Adventure, Prepared, and Modal Double-Faced cards. Because Adventure and Prepared creatures are creature cards in the graveyard while their alternative halves are instant or sorcery spells, every Adventure cast triggers Extus's Magecraft ability to return a creature directly to your hand. Supported by cost-reducing Monuments and sacrifice outlets like Ashnod's Altar, the deck repeatedly cycles utility creatures for continuous card advantage, life drain, and board control. The primary game plan establishes Extus by Turn 5, initiates a high-velocity attrition loop by Turn 6 with drain and sacrifice outlets, and closes the game around Turn 8 through accumulated drain, burn, and combat damage. While the deck boasts high functional redundancy and deep protection from instant-speed adventure spells, it relies heavily on graveyard access and lacks targeted noncreature tutors, making it susceptible to well-timed graveyard exile.
