Deck overview

This Esper deck is built around Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign's attack trigger, which reveals the top card and free-casts it when its mana value is odd. The 99 is tuned to that axis: heavy topdeck manipulation - Sensei's Divining Top, Ponder, Brainstorm, Faerie Seer, Aqueous Form - ensures the reveal hits a 5- or 7-mana bomb, and the list is packed with odd-CMC haymakers like Baneful Omen, Breach the Multiverse, Brilliant Ultimatum, Mind's Dilation, Hullbreaker Horror, and Exquisite Archangel. A Sphinx-tribal subtheme (Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign, Chancellor of the Spires, Magister Sphinx, Enigma Sphinx, Quantum Riddler) provides cost reduction and card advantage. The deck wins through combat - Magister Sphinx setting life totals to 10, Sigarda's Vanguard granting double strike, Runo Stromkirk transforming into Krothuss, Lord of the Deep for token copies - backed by the drain of Baneful Omen and Price of Knowledge. It is a value-control deck that wins through inevitability rather than speed.
