Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern, a commander that turns every opponent's sacrifice or discard into theft. The primary game plan is to force opponents to discard cards and sacrifice permanents through a dense suite of edicts, discard spells, and stax-like enchantments, then steal those permanents with Tergrid while punishing the table with drain effects like Megrim and Bloodchief Ascension. The deck also packs two compact infinite combos - Chain of Smog + Professor Onyx and Mindcrank + Bloodchief Ascension/Syr Konrad, the Grim - as fast alternate win conditions. Big-mana finishers like Torment of Hailfire and Exsanguinate provide inevitability when the combo is disrupted. The deck is highly synergistic, with every discard and sacrifice effect feeding Tergrid, the punishment engines, and the combo lines.
