Deck overview

This deck is a high-tempo Simic Merfolk kindred strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It deploys low-mana Merfolk in the opening turns, then casts Hakbal on Turn 4 to trigger mass explore across the entire team. Exploring rapidly filters draws, loads the board with +1/+1 counters, and guarantees consistent land drops. By Turn 5, the deck converts this stat advantage into a decisive clock using unblockable enablers like Herald of Secret Streams, islandwalk lords, or asymmetric bounce spells such as Raise the Palisade. Combat damage draw engines like Bident of Thassa and Seafloor Oracle keep the hand refilled with efficient counterspells to shield the board. The list reliably pressures opponents out of the game across three combat turns, maintaining strong recovery and redundancy even if the commander is removed.
