Deck overview

This Golgari deck uses Varolz, the Scar-Striped to exploit undercosted, high-power creatures with severe drawbacks, turning them into efficient graveyard scavenge fuel. Cards like Phyrexian Dreadnought, Death's Shadow, and Rotting Regisaur are discarded or tutored straight into the graveyard using Entomb, Buried Alive, and Survival of the Fittest. Once deposited, Varolz scavenges them for negligible mana ({1} or {B}), immediately placing 12 to 13 +1/+1 counters onto himself or evasive threats like Inkmoth Nexus. The deck transitions this massive power into card advantage via power-based draw spells like Return of the Wildspeaker and Garruk, Primal Hunter. It closes games through fast commander damage, infect one-shots with Tainted Strike, or table-wide life loss via Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. Backed by cheap protection spells and reanimation options, the list maintains resilient pressure across all stages of play.
