Mathas, Fiend Seeker

Format: Commander

Commander: Mathas, Fiend Seeker

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This Mardu politics deck uses Mathas, Fiend Seeker to tax opponent attacks and to hand out bounty counters that reward both sides when the marked creature dies. The primary plan is not to assemble a single deterministic combo, but to slip through combat damage with goaded enemy creatures while drawing cards from group card-draw engines and bounty triggers. Secondary paths are three compact instant/sorcery synergies: Dualcaster Mage copying Twinflame, Peer into the Abyss paired with Underworld Dreams or Spiteful Visions, and Boros Reckoner redirecting damage from Boros Charm. Mathas provides card advantage via end-step bounty counters, but the deck rarely relies on him to win; he can be replaced by Breena, Karazikar, or Nelly Borca in the politics role. The hidden commander is Jeska, Thrice Reborn, who can triple combat damage from a tall threat such as a goaded Xantcha, though she is not often cast early.
