Deck overview

This is a fully optimized Grixis combo-control deck, helmed by Kess, Dissident Mage, that leverages an immense density of fast mana, tutors, and draw engines to assemble one of several efficient two-card or three-card infinite combos. The primary game plan is to deploy a massive draw spell (Ad Nauseam, Necropotence), then use the accumulated cards to execute a deterministic win via Thassa's Oracle + Demonic Consultation/Tainted Pact, or the Underworld Breach + Lion's Eye Diamond + Brain Freeze loop. Kess acts as a value engine, allowing you to recast a key instant or sorcery from the graveyard each turn, but the deck's combo lines live entirely in the 99, making it resilient to commander removal. The suite of free counterspells and instant-speed interaction ensures the combo turn can be protected, and the low average mana value (1.96) enables explosive early turns.
