Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov lifegain, extort, and drain engine commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. The primary strategy focuses on deploying low-cost extort creatures and passive drain permanents during the early turns, followed by casting Niv-Mizzet on Turn 5. Whenever you gain life through extort triggers or combat damage, Niv-Mizzet converts that life into massive card draw, keeping your hand full of spells. By Turn 6, the deck lands powerful finishers such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Sanguine Bond, or Pontiff of Blight. These cards amplify every point of lifegain into lethal direct damage against the entire table. Supported by efficient spot removal, versatile sweepers, and potent protection spells like Clever Concealment and Flawless Maneuver, the deck grinds down opposing life totals while maintaining a commanding card advantage.
