Black Stax by jeggs

Format: Commander

Commander: Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black attrition-control strategy built around Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker, using the commander's recursive ability to repeatedly sacrifice and reanimate small, value-oriented creatures. The primary game plan is to force opponents into a resource-denial loop: discard spells and passive effects (Necrogen Mists, Cunning Lethemancer, Burglar Rat-class creatures) empty their hands, while punishment enchantments (Megrim, Liliana's Caress, Shrieking Affliction) chip away at life totals. The deck also includes stax pieces like Contamination and Smokestack to lock the board, and a finisher via Tinybones, Trinket Thief's activated ability. Shirei is the engine that keeps the small creatures recurring, but the win condition is a slow, incremental drain - the table resigns as their resources and life evaporate.
