Deck overview

This deck is a synergistic Golgari token swarm and aristocrats build commanded by Hazel of the Rootbloom. The primary strategy focuses on establishing early Food and creature tokens through efficient low-drop permanents, then deploying Hazel on Turn 4 to duplicate Squirrels at each end step and generate massive mana. By Turn 5, the deck converts token volume into a decisive win condition through combat overruns like Beastmaster Ascension and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, or table-wide life drain via Mirkwood Bats, Valley Rotcaller, and Zulaport Cutthroat. The deck features exceptional card flow once engines such as Skullclamp and Toski, Bearer of Secrets connect with cheap tokens. While the deck boasts high functional redundancy and resilient backup token leaders, it remains vulnerable to board wipes and runs limited reactive interaction. Overall, it executes a fast, focused go-wide game plan capable of closing out games on Turn 6.
