Hidetsugu and Kairi by Buhtkis

Format: Commander

Commander: Hidetsugu and Kairi

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Dimir control/value deck helmed by Hidetsugu and Kairi, leveraging its enter-the-battlefield draw and death-trigger free-cast ability to generate explosive card advantage. The deck is built around a core of clone spells (Clone, Clever Impersonator, Glasspool Mimic, etc.) and recursion effects (Feign Death, Fake Your Own Death, Pain 101) designed to re-trigger the commander or copy its death trigger. The primary game plan involves casting the commander, triggering its death through sacrifice or combat, and then casting a large instant or sorcery for free from the top of the library. The deck also includes a heavy package of big splashy spells like Army of the Damned, Rise of the Dark Realms, and Aminatou's Augury as alternate win conditions, alongside theft effects like Blatant Thievery and changing loyalties to steal opponents' threats. The mana base is tap-heavy and the curve is high, making early development slow. The deck lacks compact win conditions, relying on incremental value and repeated commander triggers to eventually overwhelm opponents.
