Deck overview

Led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul, this Simic Merfolk deck executes a high-tempo kindred strategy that synergizes explore mechanics, +1/+1 counters, and combat evasion. The deck accelerates in the opening turns with efficient mana dorks and 1–2 CMC ramp, deploying low-cost Merfolk before resolving Hakbal on Turn 3. Upon entry, Hakbal immediately triggers combat explore triggers across the entire team, filtering draws, securing land drops, and growing the board. The strategy quickly pivots to critical pressure by Turn 5 through stacked lord effects like Lord of Atlantis and Master of the Pearl Trident, or mass evasion via Herald of Secret Streams and Harbinger of the Seas. Protection spells like Ripples of Potential, Inspiring Call, and Vodalian Hexcatcher shield the board against sweepers and interaction. Without relying on infinite combos, the deck overwhelms the table through relentless card flow, substantial mana velocity, and unblockable combat swings to secure a Turn 6 finish.
