Deck overview

This deck is a focused Simic Merfolk kindred strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It leverages a low-to-the-ground creature curve to establish board presence on the first three turns, setting up Hakbal's arrival on Turn 4. At the beginning of combat, Hakbal triggers explore for every Merfolk you control, rapidly growing your creatures with +1/+1 counters while smoothing draws and putting surplus lands directly into hand or onto the battlefield. The deck transitions into a lethal threat by Turn 5 through evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams, Harbinger of the Seas, and traditional Islandwalk lords. While heavily reliant on maintaining a wide creature board, the deck protects its investment using efficient counters and phase-out effects like Ripples of Potential and Vodalian Hexcatcher. With strong card flow and built-in redundancy, the deck maintains continuous pressure across all opponents.
