Deck overview

This Mardu deck utilizes Extus, Oriq Overlord // Awaken the Blood Avatar primarily for its sorcery back half, Awaken the Blood Avatar. The strategy focuses on flooding the battlefield with low-cost, expendable creature tokens and recursive creatures such as Hunted Witness, Doomed Dissenter, and Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia. By sacrificing these bodies to pay the additional casting costs, the deck repeatedly casts its commander for {B}{R}, bypassing the commander tax through sacrifice discounts. Each resolution forces all three opponents to sacrifice a creature while creating a 3/6 Avatar token with haste that deals 3 damage to every opponent upon attacking.
