Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black control and spellslinger list commanded by Toshiro Umezawa. Its primary strategy revolves around keeping the battlefield clear of opposing creatures using an extensive suite of low-cost instant-speed removal spells. Every creature death triggers Toshiro, allowing the pilot to cast instant cards directly from the graveyard for double the efficiency. While locking down opposing combat plans and controlling the board, the deck accumulates resources through black card advantage engines like Black Market Connections, Morbid Opportunist, and Dark Confidant. It ramps aggressively using mana doublers such as Crypt Ghast and the land combination of Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. The deck closes out games cleanly on Turn 6 by either resolving Bolas's Citadel to storm into an Aetherflux Reservoir kill or casting an unmanageable Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate to drain all opponents simultaneously.
