Astarion by gwalker2104

Format: Commander

Commander: Astarion, the Decadent

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is an Orzhov life-drain deck helmed by Astarion, the Decadent, built around turning every point of life gained into opponent life lost. The commander provides a repeatable end-step Feed/Friends trigger, but the real engine is the redundant Sanguine Bond/Exquisite Blood combo web: Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Enduring Tenacity, Marauding Blight-Priest, and Bloodthirsty Conqueror create multiple two-card infinite life-loss loops. The deck also has a powerful Aetherflux Reservoir plus Bolas's Citadel life-total plan and a resilient lifelink/deathtouch creature suite as a combat backup. Development comes from a dense mana-rock package, while Phyrexian Arena, Black Market Connections, and Bolas's Citadel provide card flow. Astarion is a useful value piece but not a required combo component, making the deck unusually commander-independent for the format.
