Deck overview

This deck is a Sultai midrange strategy commanded by Volrath, the Shapestealer, designed to leverage counters to duplicate powerful triggered and static abilities onto a 7/5 body. Early turns focus on establishing mana through land ramp and mana rocks while deploying synergy creatures such as Spawnwrithe, Cold-Eyed Selkie, and Invisible Stalker. Once Volrath enters the battlefield on turn 5, its combat trigger distributes -1/-1 counters, enabling it to copy key creatures for {1}. By copying combat-damage triggers, Volrath generates massive card advantage or exponential token armies, scaling threats rapidly across subsequent turns. Evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams and trample granters ensure damage connects against gummed boards. A supporting suite of counterspells and efficient protection spells like Ripples of Potential shields the board from disruption as the deck closes out the game over two to three combat cycles.
