Deck overview

This deck is commanded by Shalai and Hallar, leveraging a Naya +1/+1 counters strategy that weaponizes counter placement into direct noncombat burn against opponents. The deck curve starts with efficient mana development and early counter amplifiers like Hardened Scales and Kami of Whispered Hopes. Once the commander enters the battlefield on Turn 4, every subsequent counter distribution chips away at opposing life totals. In the midgame, explosive scaling engines like Bright-Palm, Soul Awakener, Byrke, Long Ear of the Law, and Thickest in the Thicket double counter counts, triggering massive bursts of direct damage while simultaneously growing an unblockable or trample-assisted attacking force. Built-in protection from Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar and Shalai, Voice of Plenty shields key turns, while recursion pieces like Evolution Witness maintain resource momentum through removal.
