Deck overview

Ghave, Guru of Spores pilots a classic counter/token aristocrats engine in which Saprolings become +1/+1 counters and counters become Saprolings. The primary plan is to attach a sacrifice outlet (Phyrexian Altar or Ashnod's Altar) and a token or counter amplifier (Doubling Season, Anointed Procession, Chatterfang, Squirrel General, Hardened Scales) to the commander, converting his two activated abilities into an infinite loop of death triggers, tokens, and mana. That mana and those triggers are cashed in through drain payoffs like Zulaport Cutthroat, Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim, Corpse Knight, and Slimefoot, the Stowaway, or through Torment of Hailfire and Walking Ballista. When the combo is disrupted, the deck pivots to an oppressive token-combat midgame anchored by Tendershoot Dryad, Cathars' Crusade, Mycoloth, and Champion of Lambholt. It is a single-turn-kill deck at heart: quiet board development, then one explosive loop turn.
