Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul is the engine of this aggressive Merfolk deck. His combat explore triggers put +1/+1 counters on the whole team and his attack trigger drops extra lands or draws cards, allowing a wide/tall board to build quickly. The deck's secondary paths are a strong draw-trigger suite (Bident, Coastal Piracy, Cold-Eyed Selkie, Kindred Discovery) and a small Merfolk tutor package (Forerunner of the Heralds, Merrow Harbinger) that reliably finds lords. There is no hidden commander and no alternate win condition in the 99; combat damage is the only realistic kill, usually made unblockable by Herald of Secret Streams and islandwalk lords before a final alpha strike.
