Deck overview

Hazel of the Rootbloom commands a Golgari token-swarm deck that merges Squirrel tribal synergies, Food mechanics, and aristocrat drain effects. The game plan focuses on deploying low-cost token generators in the opening turns, casting Hazel on turn 4 to duplicate key tokens, and using Hazel's activated ability to generate massive mana. This burst mana fuels explosive token engines such as Chatterfang, Squirrel General, Deep Forest Hermit, and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. The deck converts wide boards into decisive victories through overrun effects from Camellia, the Seedmiser and The Odd Acorn Gang, or direct life drain via Valley Rotcaller, Nadier's Nightblade, and Bastion of Remembrance. While the deck features robust card draw through Skullclamp and Toski, Bearer of Secrets and strong creature control with Chatterfang, it relies heavily on permanent board presence, leaving it vulnerable to mass exile and noncreature sweepers.
