Faerun's Greatest Bard by user9547583

Format: Commander

Commander: Master Chef and Volo, Itinerant Scholar

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Simic +1/+1 counters value engine built around Volo, Itinerant Scholar with the Master Chef background. The commander creates the hexproof Volo's Journal, which rewards casting a diverse creature suite by turning each noted creature type into a card when activated; meanwhile Master Chef ensures every creature entering under your control is crowned with an extra +1/+1 counter. That universal counter enables the deck's evasive combat layer - Herald of Secret Streams, Champion of Lambholt, Emil, Vastlands Roamer, Sphere Grid - and makes Wave Goodbye effectively one-sided. The deck wins through Simic Ascendancy hitting twenty growth counters, a Twenty-Toed Toad attack with 20+ cards in hand, or an unblockable, trampling, hasted alpha strike. Volo, Guide to Monsters in the 99 acts as a hidden commander, duplicating creature spells and doubling the counter production.
