Deck overview

This Simic deck is a focused tribal aggro and counters strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The game plan revolves around flooding the battlefield with low-cost Merfolk creatures during the first three turns, then casting Hakbal on Turn 4 to trigger massive, repeatable explore triggers at the beginning of each combat. Explore simultaneously digs for lands, fills the graveyard, buffs the team with +1/+1 counters, and fuels secondary engines. The deck converts this wide, growing board into a lethal combat clock by Turn 5 through evasive enablers such as Herald of Secret Streams, Lord of Atlantis, and Master of the Pearl Trident, or via alternate win conditions like Simic Ascendancy. While it generates exceptional card flow and mana velocity, its reliance on committed creature boards leaves it vulnerable to sweepers, relying on Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call for survival.
