Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by Sahir, Visitor in Darkness, leveraging controlled self-damage and life-loss triggers to create a compounding engine of +1/+1 counters and card advantage. Sahir's Eminence ability guarantees an upkeep ping from the command zone or battlefield, which pairs seamlessly with low-cost permanents such as Bitterblossom, Dreadhorde Invasion, and pain lands to reliably satisfy Sahir's two-trigger threshold every turn. The deck channels this card advantage into suiting up Sahir with potent evasion and lifelink equipment like Shadowspear, Commander's Plate, and Brotherhood Regalia to pressure opponents while replenishing spent life. In the late game, big-mana black staples including Cabal Coffers, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, and Crypt Ghast generate immense mana pools to close out the table with crushing Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate casts. Robust protection pieces, counter-retention via The Ozolith, and flexible black removal ensure long-term resilience across multiplayer pods.
