Deck overview

This deck runs a Grixis aristocrats control strategy led by Sauron, the Dark Lord. Sauron provides continuous board presence by amassing an Orc Army whenever opponents cast spells, while his built-in ward ability severely punishes single-target removal. The game plan focuses on deploying early mana rocks, casting Sauron by turn 5, and leveraging combat damage to trigger the Ring temptation, discarding spent hands to draw four fresh cards each turn cycle. The deck converts continuous Army generation and token copies into lethal table-wide damage using sacrifice outlets like Goblin Bombardment and Warren Soultrader alongside aristocrat drain pieces such as Blood Artist, Mirkwood Bats, and Purphoros, God of the Forge. A robust suite of nine counterspells and one-mana resurrection instants shields key pieces from exile and board wipes. The deck gradually grinds down opposing creature boards through asymmetric attrition effects like Grave Pact and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician while steadily reducing all opponents to zero life.
