Deck overview

This Simic Merfolk deck is commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It operates as a high-synergy typal midrange engine that blends +1/+1 counters, explore triggers, and unblockable combat pressure. In the early turns, the deck establishes low-cost Merfolk creatures and mana acceleration. Once Hakbal enters the battlefield, every Merfolk explores at the start of combat, rapidly expanding your hand with lands and growing your creatures with +1/+1 counters. The deck converts this board presence into a win through evasion pieces like Herald of Secret Streams, Islandwalk lords, or one-sided bounce spells such as Raise the Palisade. It maintains resilience against removal using built-in protection spells like Inspiring Call and Ripples of Potential, alongside on-board countermagic from Vodalian Hexcatcher.
