Ruric Thar, Unbowed by Ixhelm

Format: Commander

Commander: Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a budget Gruul "punisher stompy" list helmed by Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. The plan is to flood the board with creatures, tax and burn opponents whenever they cast noncreature spells, then close with oversized beaters and damage doublers. Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is the flagship tax body (6 damage per noncreature spell), backed by a deep bench of redundant punishers such as Gleeful Arsonist, Magebane Lizard, Scytheclaw Raptor, and Thorn of Amethyst. Finishers include discounted titans like Ghalta, Primal Hunger, overrun effects from End-Raze Forerunners, and noncombat nukes via Heartless Hidetsugu plus doublers (Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, Fiendish Duo, Gratuitous Violence). Nikya of the Old Ways hard-locks the deck into creatures-only while doubling land mana. The list is creature-dense, light on tutors and stack interaction, and wins through attrition plus combat rather than fast combo.
