Deck overview

This deck is a Golgari midrange stompy strategy commanded by Jenova, Ancient Calamity. The plan focuses on developing efficient creatures early, casting Jenova on Turn 4, and utilizing combat triggers to place +1/+1 counters equal to Jenova's power on target creatures while turning them into Mutants. The deck amplifies these counters using cards like Hardened Scales, Loading Zone, and Ornery Tumblewagg. It converts these large bodies into unblockable combat pressure with trample enablers like Garruk's Uprising and Gnarlid Colony. When opponents attempt to block or when creatures are sacrificed to outlets like Ravenous Squirrel or Disciple of Bolas, Jenova draws cards equal to the sacrificed Mutant's power, keeping hand size full. A suite of low-cost protection instants shields key threats, allowing the deck to close games around Turn 8 through overwhelming combat damage.
