Deck overview

This mono-black deck is led by Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor and utilizes low-mana evasive creatures with shadow, flying, and unblockable traits to draw multiple cards each combat. Early creatures like Changeling Outcast and Dauthi Slayer ensure that Gix draws extra cards as soon as he enters the battlefield on Turn 3. The influx of cards fuels mana acceleration through swamp doublers such as Crypt Ghast and Cabal Stronghold. In the mid-to-late game, the deck pivots into explosive black staples like Bolas's Citadel, Peer into the Abyss, and Vilis, Broker of Blood. It closes games by draining the entire table simultaneously with Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Psychosis Crawler, or a massive Exsanguinate. While vulnerable to cheap board wipes and artifact-based threats, the deck maintains steady pressure through card flow and resilient recursion engines.
