Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black midrange engine helmed by Mortarion, Daemon Primarch that treats life totals purely as currency. It uses rapid mana acceleration from cards like Dark Ritual, Jet Medallion, and Cabal Coffers to establish early board presence. The deck converts intentional life loss through outlets like Wall of Blood, K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, Black Market Connections, and Phyrexian mana spells into massive token creation triggers during the end step. Once an army of evasive 2/2 menace Astartes Warriors is assembled, the deck applies overwhelming combat pressure supported by life-drain finishers like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Ayara, First of Locthwain, and Torment of Hailfire. It also carries dramatic life-swapping backup options like Repay in Kind and Profane Transfusion, allowing it to pivot instantly from low life into an unrecoverable table-wide disadvantage for opponents.
